WIVES AND DAUGHTERS
Greetings from the South,
Welcome to "Wives and Daughters."
How did I come up with such a name? We are combining Derbyshire Designs and Darling Doll Designs together.... (A subsidiary of Murphy Enterprises) So what better name to call it then Wives and Daughters. :-) The little girls are mothers to their dolls and we mothers have little daughters.... My daughter and I have several dresses that match. It is such fun to sew for my little girl. :-)
The Lord has given me the talent to design and sell patterns for over eight years. It has been my dream to have a designing job of my own, so here I am! (Isn't the Lord good?) I have designed outfits from pictures people have sent to me and also from movies. I did the costumes for the American Children's Theatre for five years. I also made ice-skating uniforms for a local club. I had 2 weeks to make 18 of them! That was a lot of fast work.
For the last two years I have been making and selling dresses on ebay. What fun that has been! I was able to try out a lot of different designs and meet the most interesting people. The designs I have used have come from pictures and from actual patterns of different time periods. I have used numerous patterns from Godey, Peterson, etc to design my clothing. Or in some cases, I have used dresses from movies... My favorites at the moment being: "Wives and Daughters," by Elizabeth Gaskell, and "Pride and Prejudice," by Jane Austen. Both of which are great books. If you have not read them let me encourage you to do so. "Wives and Daughters" is an online book.... Your local library would be a good place to find many great classics. :-)
On top of designing and sewing clothing for adults, children, and dolls, I am starting to redesign some of my patterns and designs to be more accurate..... Now that is a job! I am also researching how to get the correct look for each era. (I hope to add links to those you already have and do some of the eras myself once I have the research to back it up.)
My husband and I have compiled a way to make our patterns to your measurement in a minimum amount of time. We are pleased to present them to you as an option for those of you love to sew things for yourself. So with that all said, I think I have covered everything. Just let me know if I can help you create or design the outfit that you have always wanted.
